The Climate Smart Resilient Islands (CSRI) Initiative aims to provide a holistic approach for small island developing states (SIDS) to address climate change in the context of sustainable development. This is to be achieved by unlocking the great potential of mutual learning on an inter-regional scale and mobilising climate finance for the implementation of SIDS projects.

The CSRI Initiative was launched by Maldives at the UNSG Climate Action Summit in 2019 and supported by 27 SIDS in the Pacific, Caribbean, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, South China Seas (AIS), and 10 international partner agencies. The CSRI Initiative was included in the SIDS Package – a set of SIDS-focused and SIDS-defined climate change initiatives aimed at safeguarding small island societies in the face of climate change. The SIDS Package was presented by the Chair of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) to the UN-Secretary-General to be included as part of the Summit’s outcome in 2019.
